Gunite is a type of concrete that’s identical in most ways to poured concrete. The difference being that gunite is sprayed onto a surface in layers instead of poured in sections.
This application eliminates the seams of a traditional concrete installation, which makes gunite even more durable. Gunite is also a popular material for building road tunnels.
Once the pool is dug into the ground, rebar reinforcements are added, and then concrete is layered into the pool using a compressed-air gun that sprays the concrete.
The high-pressure spray allows the concrete to be applied vertically and around curves for an aesthetically pleasing look.
While gunite is considered the most durable pool installation, its porous surface makes it more susceptible to algae growth. Gunite pools are also quite expensive.
